Summary

Design and construction upgrade of the existing station comprising new lift structures, new accessible walkways, concourse building modifications, new platform canopy, new HV and LV supplies, services upgrades, replacement of platform tactiles and new signage.

Scope of Work

East Hills Railway Station is one of the stations upgraded through the Transport Access Program to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure.

The project involved installation of two new lifts linking the existing ground concourse with the elevated platform levels and modifications to the existing concourse building to provide upgraded commuter facilities.

Arenco was responsible for all the design and construction works to the existing station including the provision of a new family accessible toilet and the regrading of the paving at the concourse level to provide an accessible pathway through the station concourse.

A new accessible pathway was provided from the car park with a new ramp to provide access to the concourse area. An upgraded rear lane pathway was also upgraded to provide accessible access to the station that included rest area seating and lighting. A new platform canopy was provided to Platform 3 and all the platform edges had the existing tactile indicators replaced with new tactile indicators. Services were upgraded including a new HV electrical service and isolation transformer connected to the station incoming supply.

Significant Achievements

Successfully worked in areas with difficult or restricted access subject to live rail and commuter movements and met major station construction milestones as required.

All works completed without interruption to rail staff, commuter or pedestrian movements.

Despite extensive delays and shutdowns due to COVID-19 restrictions, construction works were completed within the awarded contract completion time.
