Summary

Construction of a 25m long pedestrian bridge over Parramatta Road, with access stairs and ramps, adjacent to the phased demolition of the existing pedestrian bridge. Construction of a new car park facility in the Auburn North Primary School including access driveway and landscaping.

Scope of Work

Construction of insitu concrete ramps, stairs and substructure, prestressed concrete girder and associated railings, screens and electrical works.

The main span structure is a single span precast pre-tensioned 1.2m deep Super-T concrete girder with 150mm thick in-situ concrete topping. A reinforced concrete column at each end of the girder supports the Super-T girder. In-situ concrete bored piles socketed into shale at reasonably shallow depths, in turn, support the columns.

The ramp structures are reinforced concrete beam and slab supported by concrete piers. The piers are then supported by pad/step type footings approximately 2m below ground.

Construction of small car park in the school grounds consisting of 14 parking spaces and access driveway.

Significant Achievements

Works were completed under live traffic conditions and the installation of the precast bridge girder was undertaken at night reducing traffic impact.

The work was carried out in and around the school with children in close proximity and therefore the work was carefully planned and executed so that the safety of the school children was not compromised.
