Summary

The works encompassed the refurbishment of the existing superstructure of West Street overbridge at Lewisham on the Main Suburban line. The West Street Overbridge is a heritage rail asset and constructed from the combined materials of brick masonry and sandstone. The refurbishment was required to prolong the service life of the structure ensuring large amounts of traffic is able to pass from Parramatta Road to the East onto Sydney Airport and Mascot areas.

Scope of Work

Arenco‚Äôs works included all site set-out works, site establishment, service re-location and reinstatement, safety, quality, environmental and planning documentation. Extensive traffic and pedestrian management allowed the demolition of the existing superstructure, installation of new bridge spans over the up and down mains including installation of parapets over the rail line.  Additional strengthening of abutments, installation of anti-throw screens, earthworks, road works and site reinstatement saw the overbridge restored.

Significant Achievements

Arenco worked closely with the client and design consultant to overcome extensive design impediments.

Re-scheduling of the program due to extreme wet weather on the first possession weekend.

Working in close proximity to neighbours, flight paths, 6 operational rail lines and a very busy traffic thoroughfare.
