Urban railways need stations at which passengers can access the system and a range of logistical infrastructure to permit the efficient operation and maintenance.
Arenco is undertaking this role from immeasurable knowledge due to years of rail facility construction, playing a vital role in the urban landscape, building public places of aesthetic significance and providing local communities solutions for safe and easy access.
Arenco was awarded the major upgrade station works as part of Downer EDI’s Managing Contractor program over 5 stations. Works involved demolition works, temporary works, building and civil works, drainage, hydraulic services and mechanical services works as part of the station easy access upgrade.
Panania Railway Station is one of the stations upgraded through the Transport Access Program to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure.
The project involved demolition works, temporary works, a new entry ramp to the southern station entrance and an upgrade to the existing entry ramp to the northern station entrance, three new lift structures, canopies to the footbridge, stairs, ramps and platforms, platform building internal refurbishment with a new Family Accessible Toilet, platform resurfacing with tactile indicators, external paving, landscaping and shelters to the station entrances. Service works included stormwater drainage, hydraulics and mechanical services. In-ground trenching and conduits were provided for the electrical services contractor, engaged separately by Downer.
The works included operating in close proximity to pedestrian traffic and live rail conditions.
All works completed without disruption of rail, commuter or pedestrian movements.
A rail corridor high level screen was provided adjacent to the rail tracks that allowed construction works to continue outside rail possession weekends.
Assisted Downer in meeting their obligations to Transport for NSW.
