Summary

Design and construction relating to the upgrade of the existing station whilst maintaining station access without the need of a temporary bridge required by the original design. New works involved installation of a new lift, extension of the existing platform, new staff, commuter and SSER facilities within an existing building, provision of new platform canopies, platform resurfacing and station entry upgrades.

Scope of Work

Narwee Railway Station is one of the stations upgraded through the Transport Access Program to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure.

The project involved installation of a new lift linking the existing subway with platform level, extension of the existing platform to accommodate the new lift, new staff, commuter and SSER facilities within an existing building, new weatherproof canopies, full platform resurfacing and reconfiguring improvements to the station entry from subway level.

Arenco was responsible for all design and construction works relating to the upgrade including comprehensively revising the reference design to eliminate unnecessary work and provide client cost savings of greater than 15% and a program reduction of 7 months by maintaining station access without the need for a temporary bridge required by the original design.

The works included operating in close proximity to pedestrian traffic and live rail conditions.

Significant Achievments

All works completed without interruption of rail, commuter or pedestrian movements.

Successfully provided client time and cost savings arising from innovative redesign.

Made further time improvements with reduction of possession dependency through prefabrication and installation of fully prepared platform canopies.
