Summary

A new pedestrian bridge over rail that links the Leumeah Railway Station commuter car park to the Campbelltown Sports Ground. The main bridge span is 40m long consisting of curved steel trusses and concrete deck and was erected over a weekend track possession. The western side span is 10m long consisting of precast concrete planks. New stairs and lifts link either end of the bridge structure.

Scope of Work

The works involved the construction of a new pedestrian bridge that links the existing Leumeah Railway Station commuter car park to the Campbelltown Sports Stadium and Wests Leagues Club, making it easier for people to access, particularly on special event days.

Arenco was responsible for all construction works including excavation, footings, civil works, concrete works, steel fabrication and installation, passenger lifts and electrical works.

The main bridge span is 40m long x 4.5m wide, consisting of curved steel trusses, concrete deck, balustrades and protective screens. This main bridge span was erected over both the Main Southern and SSFL railway lines in one weekend possession.

On the western side of the main bridge span, is a side span 10m long x 3.5m wide, consisting of 250mm thick hollow core precast planks with a reinforced concrete topping. New concrete stairs and lifts link either end of the bridge structure.

Significant Achievements

Overcame shallow ground water table that hindered excavation works for pile and pile caps.

Successfully worked within the confines of a limited site space that was near live overhead power lines, adjacent to the rail corridor and around the general public and patrons of the Wests Leagues Club.

Met critical milestones for the delivery of the bridge truss and lifts to site.
